Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Renters who experience discrimination in a residential rental agreement can apply to the Tribunal for compensation.
The Tribunal can make specific orders for renters who are victims of family or personal violence.
Bans certain people from engaging in debt collection.
Domestic building contract providers must include a warning if the price of work is likely to vary.
Residential rental providers must give keys or security devices to renters; they must pay bonds directly to the Residential Tenancies Bond Authority.
Agents for retirement village contracts must hold entry payments as a stakeholder.
Land deposits must be paid into a special purpose account; otherwise, a legal practitioner, conveyancer or estate agent must hold them.
